4. I no longer meet my own criterion of an ethical distributor. My anime interests have not diminished too much in the last 5 years but my ties to fansubbed anime have dropped off considerably. The reason is two-fold. First, just among those that have been commercially released in English, there are enough anime titles that I could watch for a solid week and not finish the list. Second, I have less free time and more money than I did 5 years ago so that in general I would prefer to make a quick purchase at buy.com than take the time to deal with most ethical fansub distribution methods. Because my connections to the fansub community have dropped off some, I am no longer able to be sure that the titles I am distributing are not already licensed. I don't ever want to distribute stuff that is has been licensed. According to my own words then, it would be better for me to close the site entirely if I can't be sure I am doing it ethically. Now as it turns out I do have people that keep an eye on the list for me, but I feel that it is my reasonability ultimately. And as I mentioned I have less free times these days so I don't really think I qualify as someone that is worthy to distribute fansubs to the public. Just because I have a big site, and just because I started this thing, does not make it right for me to do it unethically. I wonder if anyone will care enough to learn the reasons for closing this site. Did it ever mean enough to anyone that they would want to know? Or are they just into these sites for the free stuff. Please prove me wrong and send me an email . |
