The Anime Download Site

2. The amount of potential harm that is being done to commercial American and Japanese companies by the public distribution of anime fansubs has increaased in the last 5 years so that the balance has tipped in favor of ceasing public distribution activities.

Five years ago there weren't enough commercially available anime titles that the people who were willing to buy commercial anime could not buy everything they might be interested in without going broke. Now days there are so many titles out there that even the most finicky buyer can find many titles that interest him. But the availability of similar or related titles available for free would have an impact on people who might otherwise buy anime. It was all well and good to distribute fansubbed anime for free when there was no significant commercial market that we were competing with. But that situation has changed. Free anime fansubs are now competing with commercially available titles in every anime genre except maybe shounen ai. As the variety of titles available gets larger the potential financial losses resulting from the free distribution of related material becomes greater. I don't really think that the presence of the ADS really concerns such English anime producers like AnimEigo or Pioneer. The damage is probably so slight as to make no concern to them. But my site is still causing some finite damage, and the thousands of other sites like mine will add up to create a noticeable figure.

Recall from reason one that there is very little good tha can still come out of the public distribution of anime. Now that the potential for harm has increased as well, it over balances the good; and I want do my part to stop that damage. I am sure you do as well.

Move on to reason #3
